"a naturally powerful voice"

And very expressive too.

"showcasing Paul’s technical hook-craft rather than his ability to create emotionally meaningful soundscapes"

Something Cilla Black could provide, given It's for You. A pity that McCartney didn't write an album for her in the early 70's, with his Wings as backing band. In her case easy listening means a waste of vocal talent.

Great to find your writing again here, George. Looking forward to your take on Cilla and George M-do-Randy Newman in I’ve Been Wrong Before.

Yes, another song covered by both Cilla and Dusty. I think I'll actually get to the Dusty version earlier than to the Cilla one, chronologically speaking.

Thanks for your reply, George. I hadn’t heard Dusty’s before. Pondering which is my preferred version; both are excellent. And wondering which came first. Down a bit of a rabbit hole, it looks like both were 1965 UK releases (Cilla by single and Dusty by album), best I can tell, but didn’t see an exact date on the single. Interesting commentary here, if you’ve yet to read it: https://www.criticsatlarge.ca/2012/04/dusty-sings-newman-ive-been-wrong.html?m=1.
