I just treat it as a completely different song, the same way their 'Young Man Blues' only has a formal connection with Mose Allison - and 'Shakin' All Over' also has a completely different vibe from Johnny Kidd. The same way, say, Dylan songs quote some blues line for inspiration and then go somewhere else altogether.
One thing I will never understand is people's love for Who's version of "Summertime Blues". To my rockabilly-trained ears it sounds just wrong.
