I agree with the difficulty to listen to the whole thing in a single session (however short). One needs to really let go of the music history inside one's brain. But it's worthy of trying. I mean, Etta's voice is perfection. So good that I can ignore any schmaltzy arrangement. "Trust In Me" to name one, is a jewel, and definitely "Tough Mary" is fun! Just Want To Make Love To You is awesome, your versions comparison makes it better: Etta's interpretation is really pure girl power as you say. My hipster persona requires a copy of this album in unadulterated vinyl form. Well, adulterated by the scratches only, they tend to balance the syrupy orchestrations :)
