What a splendid review especially a comparison of Aretha and Tina to Beatles and Rolling Stones. And yes, Ike is one of those bad mavericks (coming to my mind Don't King in boxing) who launched career of one of the most memorable female vocalist of all time, a volcano in a female attractive body.
Great review George! I honestly didn’t know much about Ike and Tina Turner beyond “Proud Mary” and “River Deep Mountain High” (though I love both), but I think it’s time to go check out their career as a whole. Do you know a good compilation of their work to get started with?
My own journey started with "Proud Mary: The Best Of Ike & Tina Turner", 70 minutes of most of the important hit singles. But I think that quality-wise, there is no strict distinction between singles and LP-only material.
