One of the most incredible aspects is that after playing GK3, the Italian writer and illusionist Mariano Tomatis developed an obsession with Rennes-le-Chateau that culminated in him being made curator of the actual Rennes museum… which he proceeded to refashion after the game’s museum:
(In Italian, help yourself to some Google Translate)
Speaking of Italy, I sometimes think about the similarities between Gabriel Knight and Tiziano Sclavi’s Dylan Dog: both are good-looking, slightly chauvinist ex-cops who investigate on various gruesome things which may or may not have a supernatural explanation and find out they come from a looooong line of… but I don’t want to give you any spoilers 😉
Wow, I didn't know that, thanks a lot for the link (and I can actually read in Italian!). Damn, that guy pretty much stole away my dream from me :)) (well, like I said, it's never too late to retire to Rennes-le-Château anyway). I'll be sure to check out Dylan Dog eventually!
Decent enough if you're a fan of the genre, I guess.
Does it, by any chance, look like you would have rather had GK3 look like?
There were also a bunch of rather mediocre games set in the Dylan Dog universe in the early 90s, but they were... well, not that good, plus one C64 "dungeon-style" game in 1988: https://www.mobygames.com/game-group/dylan-dog-licensees
If you do ever check out the comics, I guess you'll love the occasional rock music references and in-jokes.
Those "engineers" or who they are till these days can not create a good 3D engine. Simply becuase THIS WORLD IS NOT RENdERED in 3D!!!! But they stubbornly believe in 3D as if it's some religion, like, no, we insist we have 3D space. I can't at the moment exactly tell how many dimensions this world has but, evidently, not three. Thanks for the great review!
Give 'em some slack, Alex. They only just began to make more or less credible 3D visualizations and you already expect them to incorporate string theory or something. Who knows, we might live to see ourselves as a mere sub-dimension of the multi-dimensional unvierse of Gabriel Knight 4 when it comes out!

As a side note, a Dylan Dog game came out about precisely at the same time as GK3: https://www.mobygames.com/game/dylan-dog-horror-luna-park

Mm, Satie?
I thought those piano pieces mainly ripped off several of Chopin's preludes.
And I loved every bit of them.
We all have different memories! and we're both probably right.
Tour Magdala is definitely more Satie, but Montreux's Library is certainly Chopin. And so on.
Very lovely pieces indeed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oy2t_Ru3rQ&list=PL1DFDC0EB63CEFF42
Ooh, I had forgotten the Magdala theme. Yes, indeed.
It also obliquely reminds me of a wonderful piece by Ellington, Mingus and Roach called “Fleurette Africaine”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HFQy9_rY58
It’s funny because I came here via your music blog 😉
Edit: the Church theme gets me every time. Now I feel nostalgic.
